Role Overview: Bupa has an exciting opportunity for an exceptional Lead Engineer to join our Domestic Retail and Digital domain. Our application architecture is evolving, and we are looking for fresh perspectives to usher in a modern design to enable our rapid growth and focus on our digital platforms.
As the Lead Engineer, you will join our technology team and be responsible for leading the design and development of high-quality digital applications within one of four Realms: Sales, Service, Mobile, and API. You will play a crucial role in transforming several monolithic solutions into a composable and loosely coupled architecture hosted on Docker and Kubernetes services, ensuring optimal performance and rapid speed to market.
In this role, you will lead the definition, oversight, and governance of technical projects from inception through to final production and deployment. You will ensure that the team adheres to best practices, delivering solutions that meet or exceed business and customer expectations. Collaboration is key; you will work closely with other digital teams, architecture, support, and environment teams to develop new and existing features, as well as with application architects, Engineering Managers, and other stakeholders.

Your Contribution: Lead the development and execution of technical projects from inception through to final production and deployment.Lead the design of application solutions for new ideas/initiatives coming into the digital team that you lead for the products the team runs, working with the architecture team and wider business. Conduct system analysis, solution design, and technical design activities with high-quality documentation and realistic work estimates as end-deliverables.Work with the application architects to plan the long-term strategic architecture for the products you lead.Design end-to-end solutions and provide feedback on others' solution designs to ensure they meet operational needs.Lead and direct technical initiatives for the team's products.Manage a team of developers (1-6), conducting performance reviews and providing guidance to direct reports.Work collaboratively with the other IT functions in responding to Business unit requirements that underpin the day-to-day activities of existing applications and associated systems.Participate in identifying process and system improvements for the realm you help to lead.Actively collaborate with and assist other members of the team in successfully completing their activities including some level of mentoring and training and at times leading development activities.Undertake feasibility studies of changes to applications for proposed business projects/enhancements to provide high-level sizing.Ensure that proposed technical design complies with the application architectural principles.Undertake coding activities that comply with the intention of the technical specification, using judgement and communication skills to alter where appropriate.Manage the performance of team members and conduct employee reviews.Undertake manual and automated test activities as per agreed unit test coverage and ensure that artefacts are available to satisfy any audit compliance.Ensure that application deliverables comply with the quality requirements defined by the Quality Assurance area.Qualifications and Experience: Relevant tertiary qualification at degree level.At least 1 year of experience managing a team of direct reports, leading projects or programs from a technical perspective, or demonstrated experience mentoring other developers within squads.At least 5 years of experience building products using several of the following technologies:.NET web apps and API appsMicrosoft Azure (App Services, AKS, Containers, NoSQL/SQL Database as a Service, Redis Cache, etc.)Sitecore 10+Next.js, React, Angular, Vue, or other JavaScript frameworksMobile technologies, including Xamarin (not Forms), Kotlin, Swift in an enterprise environmentTesting frameworks and tools such as Jest, xUnit, Cypress, Swagger, etc.CI/CD systems, particularly Azure DevOps or GitHub/GitHub ActionsApplication lifecycle/documentation tools like Confluence, Azure DevOps Boards, Jira, etc.Experience developing with the Azure cloud platform.Development experience in multi-tier architectures.Ability to function both as a thought leader and an individual contributor.What's in it for me?
