Lead Analyst / Manager - Economic Analysis

Details of the offer

Economic Analysis Department is seeking a lead analyst or manager (depending on the successful candidate) with expertise in macroeconomic modelling with a focus on climate change. If you want to play a key role in advising how Australia's central bank will navigate the economic and financial challenges that climate change poses, this is for you. You will work as part of the Structural Analysis and Macroeconomic Modelling section (SAMM) to help shape the Bank's use of models in providing policy-relevant analysis to the Governors and the Board.
The Role:Two Year Fixed Term Contract
As a Lead Analyst or Manager in Economic Analysis Department, you will work alongside modellers in SAMM to provide analytical and strategic guidance on the economic and financial challenges related to climate change. This role requires continual engagement with the Climate Analysis and Policy section (CAP), that is distributed across various departments within the Bank. A focus of this role is using and developing macroeconomic models (particularly G-cubed) to enhance our understanding of how physical and transition risks might affect the structure of the economy and what this means for the responsibilities of the RBA. You will use your technical expertise to lead and oversee analytic work produced within the section and in collaboration with other departments across the Bank.
Your background:We are looking for a passionate and pragmatic technical specialist to join the modelling brains trust of the RBA. You will need to understand how risks associated with climate change and the energy transition relate to economic and financial outcomes, and translate complex real-world issues into tractable modelling exercises. For the manager role, you should have some prior experience or a demonstrated interest in people leadership.
Ideally, you will have:the ability to work with large-scale economic models to develop and communicate relevant insights;demonstrated ability to identify important policy questions, and design and carry out analysis to answer them efficiently and effectively;demonstrated experience in working with a structural macroeconomic model (ideally G-cubed, or otherwise a DSGE or CGE model);a solid understanding of the implications of climate change and the energy transition for economic outcomes;the ability to work in a self-directed manner, provide guidance around an array of technical challenges and to upskill junior staff;strong organisational skills and the ability to judge what issues are most important and to reprioritise quickly as circumstances change;stakeholder engagement skills together with an ability to work collaboratively with other sections in the Bank and communicate effectively with peers at government agencies and academia;for the manager position, demonstrated people leadership and influencing skills, and the ability to nurture an inclusive culture and team-based approach to work;relevant tertiary qualifications in economics or finance, strongly favouring post-graduate qualifications;advanced coding skills in one or more of Python, R or Matlab.Be MoreWorking for an organisation that truly makes a difference to the people of Australia, we can offer development and career opportunities in a collaborative environment that supports your growth, wellbeing and promotes flexibility. Your individual growth and success drives the RBA forward as an organisation. Be more means you can do more, for yourself and for Australia.
