THE ROLE
Our client is seeking experienced lawyers at the Lawyer or Senior Lawyer level to assist a high profile litigation team in a secondment position with a federal government department for an initial period of 6 months with the possibility of 2 further 6 month extensions.
THE RESPONSIBILITIES
The role will require the successful candidates to work in the Department's litigation team.
The litigation team is responsible for civil and personal injury claims, compensation claims, debt recovery actions, class actions, non-litigated claims, commercial matters and responding to court orders such as subpoenas. The team also manages the Department's involvement in Coronial inquests, Comcare WHS actions, administrative law challenges and judicial review of decisions.
The role will require the candidate to assist with ongoing and incoming high profile litigation matters, respond to work surges and comply with Court timeframes. There may be some travel involved in support of the branch's activities.
THE REQUIREMENTS
Legal qualifications, a current practising certificate and a current minimum Baseline security clearance are essential.
Previous experience working in a federal government litigation team would be highly regarded.
These are security assessed positions and the successful candidates must be willing to undergo further checks as required.
