We work closely with Australian and international businesses, organisations and governments.About the roleWe are currently looking for Lawyers/Associates (2-5 years PQE) to join our growing and high-performing Public Law - Probity team led by Partners Simonetta Astolfi and Sunny Leow. The team is based in both Melbourne and Canberra so we are keen to hear from lawyers in either location.The work involves providing pragmatic, solutions-focussed commercial advice, governance advice, contract drafting, procurement, grants and probity advice to Commonwealth Government agencies (including at senior levels), to work collaboratively with other lawyers and our clients, and generally support the Partners build and maintain a strong team environment. You will have the opportunity to work in a fast paced environment on a variety of complex, sensitive, interesting and nation-building projects. Things are never dull in this team!About youIdeally you will have experience advising clients and helping solve problems and enjoy working collaboratively and contributing to a team environment. You should bring a sense of openness to learning new skills, and you will bring a level of common sense, emotional intelligence and pragmatism to your practice of the law. You should be able to understand the 'big picture', as well as having strong attention to detail and sound technical legal drafting and statutory interpretation skills.You will also have the following skills and experience:2-5+ years' experience as a lawyer working with government clientsContracting, procurement and/or grant experienceAn understanding of probity, integrity in the public sector, and governance principlesGeneral legal experience (whether that's in dispute resolution, commercial law, administrative law, general public law)Strong emotional intelligence and inter-personal skillsExperience working collaboratively in a team environmentA keenness to learnWe are open to this being located in Canberra or Melbourne, and we work flexibly at Maddocks with part of our week in the office.Maddocks is simply a great place to do great work.
