Your new role
As the lawyer in this temporary contract, you will play a key role in providing high-level legal support across the Council. Reporting to the General Counsel and Manager Governance and Risk, you will assist in maintaining legal compliance and risk management, offer strategic legal advice, and work on various legal matters including land conveyancing, insurance claims, and the preparation of statutory notices. Additionally, you will be responsible for supporting the Council in a wide range of legal areas, ensuring that its operations are conducted within the appropriate legislative frameworks. Your role will also involve collaborating with internal and external stakeholders and representing the Council in court or liaising with external solicitors when required.
Key Responsibilities Include
Providing general legal advice and services across the Council. Managing contracts, leases, and procurement documents. Representing or liaising with external solicitors in legal proceedings. Handling public liability and professional indemnity claims. Managing the process for the sale of land and land acquisition. What You'll Need To Succeed
To excel in this role, you will have a strong legal background with demonstrated strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities. You must be skilled at working under pressure and capable of managing multiple priorities while maintaining high standards. Your ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders will be key to your success.
Required Qualifications And Skills
Tertiary qualification in law. High-level strategic, conceptual, and analytical legal skills. Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, and communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and other business-related programs. Strong project management skills including planning and risk management. What You'll Get In Return
