Position Overview:
The Ethics and Practitioner Support Department (EPS Department) administers the confidential Ethics Advice and Practice Support lines and is responsible for providing guidance on ethics and practice support issues to members of the legal profession.
In this role, you will provide legal research to the Ethics team as well as advice and guidance to assist LIV members and the wider legal profession with inquiries made to the Ethics and Practice Support Lines. You will work as part of a team and assist in triaging calls on the Ethics Advice and Practice Support Lines, researching and writing Ethics Committee Rulings, researching and developing ethics guidelines for the Guidelines Review Sub-Committee, researching and developing content for ethics presentations and other projects from time to time, and supporting LIV staff and members.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Undertake research as necessary to provide ethics advice or guidance on queries received on the support lines
Drives and delivers projects as needed from time to time
Research and prepare draft Rulings for the consideration of the Ethics Committee.
Research and prepare draft Ethics Guidelines for consideration by the LIV Guidelines Review Sub-Committee and LIV Ethics Committee.
Regularly consider, research and author articles on ethical issues.
Regularly consider forms and precedents, case law and changes to legislation relevant to ethics and substantive areas of law relating to practice support.
Communicate and present information in writing and orally in a clear, logical and insightful way.
To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:
Admitted to practice and eligible to hold a practicing certificate within 6 months of commencement of the role.
Advanced legal research skills.
Good project management skills.
Highly developed operational understanding of legal practice, processes and procedures.
Sound foundational knowledge of the principles, theory and practice of ethics and practice management.
High level analytical, conceptual skills and the ability to provide ethical guidance and practical support to legal practitioners in the efficient, ethical and compliant provision of legal services.
Excellent communication skills, including attention to detail and accuracy, and demonstrated strong presentation and facilitation skills to deliver education, training and public speaking with the ability to work collaboratively to develop presentations, course documents and slide packs quickly and accurately.
Demonstrated commitment to high quality service standards with a stakeholder and client focus.
An understanding of the regulatory and compliance framework in which Victorian lawyers operate
Outstanding ability to translate complex legal concepts into accessible, accurate and practical legal information and advice.
Technical fluency in Microsoft Office Suite, ability to use client databases and an ability to adapt to new processes and technology.
