The Opportunity We have an exciting opportunity for a Consumer and Competition Lawyer to join our team, working across the Group, with a focus on partnering with and supporting our WFC, WLiving and eComX businesses.
This will include competition, Australian Consumer Law, Grocery Code, product safety, restricted products, pharmacy and other key regulatory issues; along with general commercial matters and supplier management.
The role is a permanent full time role, based across our Bella Vista and Surry Hills offices with flexible working arrangements are available.
Our team values in person team time, as well as flexibility.
We connect regularly in our Bella Vista and/or Surry Hills offices, with the opportunity to work across our other offices, stores, sites and remotely or from home.
As a member of our legal team within the Legal, Industry & Government function, you'll have opportunities to work collaboratively with and learn from other lawyers, Government and Industry professionals and external legal partners, to support and partner with the business to achieve its strategic priorities by sharing your knowledge and insights and managing a range of matters.
What you'll do This role is fast-paced, varied and will involve advising on competition and consumer law, including new strategic customer propositions, advertising and marketing (including compliance with advertising codes, privacy and spam legislation), product safety compliance, Grocery Code compliance and supplier relationship matters - all in a dynamic environment, where the customer is at the heart of what we do.
In particular, you will: provide practical and commercially sound advice to stakeholders on on retail regulatory matters including competition, Australian Consumer Law, Grocery Code, product safety, restricted products, pharmacy and other key regulatory issues; advise on end to end strategic customer propositions, along with marketing and advertising matters; advise on managing consumer complaints, including complaints submitted via regulators; advise on supplier relationship matters, including a desire to support and guide businesses on upcoming Grocery Code reform; have practical knowledge of how to apply the Spam and Privacy Acts, along with intellectual property and related consumer law concepts, and be able to identify and escalate potential issues What you'll bring We are seeking a proactive, collaborative and curious lawyer who is able to demonstrate the following: 2-5 PQE (preferably gained with a reputable law firm and/or at a relevant in-house role); sound legal and commercial judgement and a problem solving mindset; confidence to work independently, with the judgement to escalate to senior stakeholders where required; excellent interpersonal skills, with the capacity to deal confidently with stakeholders; ability to perform and thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on and rapidly changing team environment; and a proactive, can-do approach.
