We are seeking a lawyer with and interest in civil, family and/or family violence matters to undertake a short-term contract with a community legal centre.
An initial 8-week labour hire contract is on offer, with possible extension.
This role is based in Wodonga, Victoria with remote and part-time working arrangements considered.
Please note: the successful candidate will need to obtain Working with Children Checks for NSW and VIC and a Police Check prior to commencement (which will be paid by our firm).
Duties: Provide high quality legal assistance services in a trauma-informed way to clients Participate in regular meetings, including with partners and clients Provide secondary consultations and professional development to local service providers to assist non-legal service providers to identify legal issues and appropriate referral options and pathways Provide support to other lawyers, solicitor and paralegal volunteers, non-legal volunteers, law/PLT students as required Requisite skills/experience: Admitted to practice law and eligibility for a practising certificate in Victoria Demonstrated experience in providing advice and undertaking casework in the areas of family law and/or family violence and general civil law (or the ability to quickly learn) Demonstrated ability to engage with 'at risk' service users with multiple and complex needs and those who have experienced trauma and/or are affected by poor mental health in a trauma informed manner Highly developed verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate complex information to range of people, via a variety of channels Ability to manage complex situations and stories of trauma from service providers and service users with empathy and an understanding of own wellbeing A passion for supporting clients facing disadvantage within a community legal centre setting who would not otherwise be able to afford a lawyer Previous experience in a community legal centre setting highly desirable Culture and benefits adaptbl is a NewLaw firm.
