About the Language Services Department The Language Services Department forms part of the Division of Allied Health. Language Services receives more than 33,000 interpreter requests per year in a broad range of languages (approximately 100 different languages and dialects). Interpreting services are delivered via face to face, telephone, and video interpreting.
About the role The Language Services Manager is recognised as a leader within their profession and works across multiple sites. You will operationalise the core values of Austin Health through effective leadership and management of Language Services across the organisation. You will oversee and ensure that high quality, efficient interpreting services are available to patients within the operational budget for the service.
A regular day will see you:
Ensure that patients have access to Interpreters as required – including provision of direct patient service, as required.Work with the clinical teams to ensure that patients have access to an interpreter when they need one.Work with the Manager of Speech Pathology, to plan and develop the delivery of Language Services within Austin Health.About you You will be someone who has excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to delivering excellence to patients who require interpreting services. You'll bring energy and drive to your work, and have a keen interest in developing your skillset.
You'll further bring with you:
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse range of professionals, patients, their families and carers, as well as community agencies.Strong leadership and management experience, with the ability to coach and mentor your team, think creatively when problem solving and have an approachable style.Demonstrated ability to implement and manage data systems, including the Interpreter Management System (IMS).Knowledge of and experience in managing Language Services within a health environment.Working at Austin Health means enjoying a strong sense of purpose, engaging in meaningful work every day.
