Hours of work are 22.5 hours per week over 41 weeks (Term weeks + Week 0) working 8.00am - 4.00pm. The nominated days of work will be Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.The Laboratory Technician is responsible for working collaboratively with Science teaching staff to ensure the efficient day-to-day organisation and preparation of equipment & materials in accordance with recognised Australian standards. This includes ensuring that all practicals and experiments are prepared for classes, maintaining and caring for Science facilities and equipment, and ensuring that all administrative and housekeeping tasks are completed to assist the successful delivery of teaching/learning programs. The role also ensures that adequate operational systems are maintained within the department (i.e. material safety data sheet register, cataloguing, stock listing, laboratory handbook, safe operating procedures, and risk assessment), and provides technical support to staff and students (researching & testing experiments, demonstrating techniques and working with students to ensure safe practices are maintained) both inside and outside of the classroom.This position requires a suitably qualified, well-rounded, and motivated individual, with a high level of organisation, attention to detail and efficiency, and a passion for supporting student learning. The ability to work effectively both independently and within a highly collaborative team environment is essential, as is the ability to prioritise tasks and manage deadlines.Minimum RequirementsThe successful applicant will have:Hold or be willing to obtain and maintain a current clearance to work with children (Working With Children Check (WWCC)), Mandatory Notification Training Certificate, and First Aid CertificateSignificant experience working in a laboratory environment, preferably within a secondary school environmentSignificant experience preparing and maintaining scientific equipment, resources and materialsSignificant knowledge and experience applying current legislation requirements in order to properly maintain a science laboratory, preparation and storage areas, equipment, and chemicalsUnderstanding of concepts in senior Science enabling the support of teachers and students and an ability to solve problems of some complexitySignificant ability to provide technical and administrative support to Science teaching staff & programsExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsStrong organisational, planning, and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritise work to achieve outcomes within required deadlinesSignificant experience and ability to both work independently and as part of a teamStrong attention to detail with the ability to document, maintain & monitor effective administrative procedures & record keepingMotivation and a passion to work with and support young people on their journey through secondary education.Ability and desire to actively support the values and ethos of a Christian school.A practicing Christian, with the ability to relate the Gospel message to their role within the College, and encourage a spirit of Christian care amongst staff and students (highly desirable)We look forward to appointing a talented and motivated individual to join our College community.
