About the office/schoolThe Mission of the School of Medicine, Sydney is to develop and train excellent, caring and ethical doctors. The Doctor of Medicine (MD) is a 4-year graduate-entry program which combines Basic and Clinical Sciences (BCS), Communication and Clinical Skills, Population and Public Health, and Personal and Professional Development.
For the Foundation Years (Years 1 and 2), the teaching of Basic and Clinical Sciences curriculum is delivered principally through lectures, practical sessions, pre-recorded teaching resources and Problem Based Learning tutorials.
About the roleThis position works in collaboration with academic and professional colleagues to provide effective and efficient laboratory support for the MD program.
Key ResponsibilitiesProvide technical, operational and administrative support for teaching and promotional activities within the school.Oversee and manage day-to-day activities of laboratories to ensure laboratory operations are running effectively.Prepare, set up and pack down the laboratory/teaching spaces and classroom materials to support learning and teaching activities in the School.Assist with the coordination, organisation and preparation of resources required for learning and teaching activities including the purchase of equipment and laboratory consumables.Maintain stock, including the storage and handling of hazardous substances in accordance with University and legislative guidelines; responsible for servicing of equipment and ensuring it is functional and safe to use.Establish and maintain safety documentation such as risk assessments, safety audits and standard operating procedures for laboratory and field activities.Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and University policies and procedures, including equity, health and safety and exhibit good practice.Maintain fair, ethical and professional work practices in accordance with the University Code of Conduct.Comply with all other reasonable training and duties as identified by the line manager (or delegate).Comply with University policies and procedures in all aspects of their work and conduct.Qualifications, skills & experienceCompletion of a degree without subsequent relevant work experience, or completion of an advanced diploma qualification and at least 1 year's subsequent relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.Demonstrated laboratory experience, preferably in tertiary or higher education sectors.Experience in the demonstration and use of equipment in a learning and teaching environment.Demonstrated experience maintaining equipment inventory including its servicing.Excellent operational, organisational and administration skills including the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.High level of competency in various software packages including Microsoft Office Suite, student administration systems, including the ability to learn and implement new systems.Ability to collaborate across multifunctional teams, providing a high level and responsive service.Supervise students in laboratories, including outside of regular teaching hours where required.BenefitsFast paced environment with opportunity for professional growthGenerous training and development opportunitiesFriendly and collaborative working environmentHow to applyPlease apply online with a resume and cover letter outlining your suitability for the role.
