About the position
This position is responsible for the management of the Laboratory Services Team and the teaching and research laboratories, Anatomy Museum, Pathology Museum, and Clinical Skills laboratories.
This includes:
Managing the Laboratory Services Team including recruitment, regular performance reviews, professional development, training needs of staff, and developing and coaching team members.
Managing and co-ordinating the laboratories, laboratory equipment, and chemicals to support student teaching and research.
Setting up student practicals and trialling new student practicals and providing technical support to staff and students in practical sessions, including providing training and safety inductions to staff and students, and maintaining and updating risk assessments.
Managing the maintenance of laboratory systems, guidelines, and standard operating procedures and ensuring compliance with relevant workplace health and safety and other regulatory requirements.
Providing policy and procedural advice, writing clear and concise specifications and reports, and contributing to the design, development and implementation of policies and procedures.

We are looking for someone who has:
Either a relevant qualification or equivalent professional experience in the management of teaching or research laboratory environments.
Demonstrated significant experience in the commissioning and management of laboratory facilities and infrastructure, including the use and maintenance of specialised scientific equipment.
Demonstrated skills in leading a team of laboratory professionals in achieving the Faculty's goals, including an understanding of contemporary management practices.
High-level knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements including Workplace Health & Safety with successful previous experience in the development and implementation of a risk management program; the ability to train relevant staff and students in safe practices within laboratory environments.
Highly developed organisational and communication skills conducive to the efficient operation of a client-focused team.
The ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks concurrently, apply continuous improvement principles, meet deadlines, and undertake administrative tasks as required.
Established professional judgment and problem-solving skills, including the ability to resolve emergent and complex issues, exercise initiative and manage a number of matters concurrently.
Salary details
The salary for the position commences at $112,653.85 per annum, plus 12% superannuation.
