Our courses are delivered by experienced clinicians and academics ensuring materials and content are evidence based, contemporary and future focused.About the roleThis position works in collaboration with academic and professional colleagues to provide effective and efficient laboratory support for the School of Nursing and Midwifery.
The position will report to the Laboratory Team Leader and is responsible for the preparation, operation, and maintenance of laboratory equipment and materials including setting up and dismantling experiments, managing inventories, ensuring safety protocols, troubleshooting equipment, and providing technical support.Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare, set up and pack down the laboratory/ teaching space and classroom materials to support learning and teaching activities in the School of Nursing and Midwifery.Assist with the coordination, organisation and preparation of resources required for learning and teaching activities.Provide routine technical advice, support and instruction for learning and teaching activities, including the demonstration and use of basic equipment.Assist in the conduct of experiments and/or set up of materials and equipment for a range of experiments and demonstrations.Conduct routine maintenance and servicing of equipment/workspaces.Maintain stock, including the storage and handling of hazardous substances in accordance with University and legislative guidelines.Maintain currency of knowledge for all relevant state and industry-based regulations, legislation and policies and procedures.Conduct routine risk assessments, report outcomes to the Senior Laboratory Officer, and escalate any concerns/queries as required.Monitor equipment loans to students and inspect outgoing and returned equipment to prevent damage and loss.Maintain laboratory records and databases (for example, equipment, chemicals and hazardous substances).Provide general laboratory administration, including correspondence as required, and contribute to preparing the laboratories for special events, such as Open Day.Other duties as identified by the Senior Laboratory Officer.Maintain fair, ethical and professional work practices in accordance with the University Code of Conduct.Qualifications, skills & experienceCompletion of a diploma level qualification with relevant work-related experience, or completion of a Certificate IV with relevant work experience, or completion of a post-trades certificate and extensive relevant experience and on-the-job training, or completion of a Certificate III with extensive relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.Laboratory experience, including laboratory methods, preferably in tertiary or higher education sectors.Demonstrated proficiency in the operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment, the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues and ensure proper functionality, as well as the ability to provide assistance and guidance to students and staff in conducting experiments or using laboratory resources.Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and the ability to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.Well-developed communication skills, with the ability to build relationships, engage and influence stakeholders.Demonstrated operational, organisational and administration skills including the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.Demonstrated competency in various software packages including the Microsoft Office Suite.An understanding of relevant state and industry-based regulations, legislation and policies and procedures.Ability to collaborate across multifunctional teams, providing a high level and responsive service.Proven record of preparing high-quality documentation with excellent accuracy and attention to detail.BenefitsFast-paced environment with opportunity for professional growth.Generous training and development opportunities.Join the University supporting its students and staff to achieve their career goals – in a personal and positive environment.How to applyPlease apply online with a resume and cover letter outlining your suitability for the role.Applications closing date: 29 January 2025For further information on how to apply, please visit: How to apply | Notre DameApplicants are expected to have current and valid work rights in Australia.Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply.The University of Notre Dame Australia seeks to increase the diversity of our workforce to better meet the different needs of the University and its stakeholders and to improve equal opportunity outcomes for our staff.Contact usPlease direct your queries regarding this role to Janette Tam, ****** contact from recruitment agencies will not be entertained.
