As the Laboratory Assistant, you will:
Be located within the Community and Health Faculty and be responsible for providing technical support to teaching areas within the faculty.Contribute to the operation of TAFE Queensland North's laboratories to enable them to be used efficiently, effectively, and in accordance with legislative requirements by a variety of class groups.This position reports to the Faculty Manager – Community & Health.
This is a Temporary, Part-time 0.5FTE opportunity, to 19 December 2025 unless otherwise determined.
The position will be based primarily at Cairns; however, you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.
Key Responsibilities Prepare, operate, and maintain Clinical Laboratory space and equipment for use by faculty teaching teams for all scheduled sessions.Maintain adequate operational stock levels of Clinical Laboratory resources, including ordering, invoicing, and record keeping.Contribute to the development of learning techniques and products for use within the Clinical Laboratory under consultation with Educational Team Leaders.Assist teachers with the integration and set-up of resources into the Clinical Laboratory and Simulation, including technological programs and equipment.Contribute to the development and maintenance of resources for use within the Clinical Laboratory.Demonstrate the safe use of equipment and materials to classes and provide assistance to both staff and students in the use of more sophisticated instruments and equipment.Ensure adequate coverage of Clinical Laboratory space to meet delivery demands for scheduled classes.Maintain materials and equipment and dispose of any hazardous materials in accordance with Australian Standards.Maintain nursing laboratories in a clean and tidy state, including necessary cleaning of equipment and utensils.Ensure necessary consumables are available for class use, including stocktaking and organization of the chemical stores and updating of relevant databases and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) registers.Model and promote an ethical and safe work environment that supports a culture of zero harm and best practice regarding health, safety, wellness, and sustainability (It is highly encouraged that the Lab Technician is the Clinical Laboratories Health and Safety representative and Fire Warden).How you will be assessed Within the context of the role description above, the ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:
