Your new role
We are seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a casual Laboratory Assistant, with an immediate start.
Your availability will need to be on weekdays between 9:00am to 5:00pm to work when required such as during team members' planned or unplanned leave, or during peak workload periods.
This may vary from week to week.
In this role of casual Laboratory Assistant, you will support the delivery of high-quality, genomics services including Sanger Sequencing, NGS and Microarray by AGRF's NATA accredited laboratory in Melbourne.
The primary responsibilities of the role are:

Sample management including reception, sorting, and tracking for processing.
Assist and perform routine laboratory procedures including nucleic acid extraction, QC, template preparation for sequencing and microarray analysis.
General laboratory and equipment maintenance.
What you'll need to succeed for the casual Laboratory Assistant position:
ESSENTIAL

Knowledge of basic laboratory processes and molecular biology techniques.
Basic computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Good organisational skills
Strong attention to detail
Good written and verbal communication skills

DESIRABLE

Tertiary degree in Molecular Biology or related field.
Demonstrated ability to set priorities and multitask efficiently and independently.
Ability to apply critical thinking to problem solving and innovation.
Previous experience in a service role and handling direct communication with clients.
Previous experience utilizing general laboratory equipment, including qPCR, sequencer and automation.
