The opportunity The Scientific Computing (SC) group within the Information Management & Technology (IMT) function offers comprehensive technology solutions, from corporate IT systems to advanced high-performance data processing tools.
This team oversees a complete computational and data infrastructure, including multiple high-performance computing (HPC) clusters, Kubernetes (K8s) clusters, and Edge-Compute cluster.
Additionally, the group hosts critical corporate applications on a highly flexible and reliable virtualised platform, while also supporting organisational data management practices.
As a Kubernetes Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing our Kubernetes-based infrastructure to support scalable, resilient, and secure applications.
You will work closely with development and operations teams to optimise and maintain the Kubernetes environment, ensuring high availability and performance of containerised applications.
This role requires an understanding of container orchestration, cloud environments, and infrastructure automation.

Your duties will include: Design, deploy, and manage Kubernetes clusters across various environments, implementing best practices for efficient operations.
Develop and maintain automation scripts using Ia C tools like Helm, Ansible, or Terraform for Kubernetes environments.
Implement monitoring solutions, troubleshoot cluster operations, and resolve performance issues.
Ensure Kubernetes environments meet security and compliance standards, managing controls like RBAC and network policies.
Work with Dev Ops and development teams to optimize workflows, support containerization, and address Kubernetes-related issues.
Stay current with Kubernetes advancements, proposing enhancements for improved efficiency, scalability, and reliability.
Support service management processes including change, configuration, and incident management.
Salary: AU$93,267 - AU$105,517 plus up to 15.4% superannuation Reference: 97762 To be considered you will need: Under CSIRO policy only those who meet all essential criteria can be appointed.
Relevant certification, diploma, degree, or equivalent work experience in IT.
Knowledge of Docker, containerd, and microservices architecture.
Proficiency in Bash, Python, or Go for scripting and automation.
Familiarity with Helm, Ansible, or Terraform.
Experience in Linux system administration.
Understanding of networking, security practices, and CI/CD pipelines.
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication abilities.
Ability to work independently and self-motivate in a distributed team environment.
CKA or CKAD, or equivalent.
Experience in deploying and managing on-prem Kubernetes clusters, including monitoring, logging, and managing containers, networks, secrets, and applications.
Experience managing environments for Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and AI, such as Jupyter Notebooks and Python packages.
Experience with tools like Prometheus and Grafana.
Experience with AWS, Azure, GCP, and related Kubernetes services.
