Purpose of the Position
The kitchenhand position is employed to support the Head Cook and Cook, to prepare, and serve meal provisions for Batchelor Institute's Batchelor Campus kitchen which provides breakfast, lunch and dinner to students residing on campus for the duration of a workshop and catered lunch meals for staff.
Duties Assist in the preparation and serving of balanced, nutritious, home-style meals, whilst ensuring variety in daily and weekly meals, as per a weekly menu. Support the preparation of weekly menus, following Australian Dietary Guidelines and other guidelines as per Australian Health initiatives and recommendations. Support the Team Leader, Kitchen Services to ensure the Kitchen meets and maintains national food safety standards and regulation requirements including food safety practices and general requirements, food safety management tools and food premises and equipment. Undertake cleaning of food preparation areas, kitchen equipment, appliances, utensils and crockery, benchtops, floors, oven, and ranges as instructed. Receive, lift, handle, and store food deliveries. Distribute pre-packed meals for students who arrive, depart and/or participate in local field trips outside of normal kitchen operating hours. Assist in stocktake activities. Undertake disposal of perishable foods and daily waste. Undertake other duties within the range of skills associated with this classification as directed by the line manager. Selection Criteria Demonstrated ability to work effectively in culturally diverse teams within the social, political, and cultural environments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities, and organisations. Highly effective interpersonal skills including proficient written and oral communication which can be adapted to meet the needs of people from all educational levels. Demonstrated capability in the understanding and interpretation of procedures that relate to Commonwealth/State legislation and guidelines. Demonstrated capability in participating in a diverse team to obtain outcomes of success. Demonstrated initiative and managing workload priorities. Understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures.
