About the role
V/Line is excited to announce that we are recruiting a Regional Driver Manager to oversee operations in the Geelong, Warrnambool, and Ballarat Driver Depots.
This is a unique and rare opportunity to join the business and make meaningful change for the future. We are seeking an experienced and engaging people leader , ideally with operational or rail exposure, who can influence and drive positive outcomes for the region and the broader business.
The Regional Driver Manager is responsible for day-to-day leadership and management of Regional Driver Supervisors (RDS), Practical Driver Trainers (PDT), Drivers and Trainees within the region to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of V/Line train services. The Regional Driver Manager role encompasses performance management, people & culture leadership, human resource and injury management, internal & external stakeholder engagement and establishing tactical and strategic improvement plans for the region.
This role will operate in a challenging and complex environment and need to navigate the complexities of both Workplace Relations and Rail Legislative and Regulatory requirements to provide a safe, efficient and compliant service for the region.
Critical to success will be a strong focus on fostering an engaged and capable workforce and relentlessly embedding a continuous improvement mindset to ensure the team is well-prepared for future challenges.
As the Regional Driver Manager, you will divide your time between the Geelong, Warrnambool and Ballarat depots, as well as the Southern Cross Train Crew Depot and Head Office in the Melbourne CBD.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure RDS & Drivers comply with all aspects of policy, procedures, and statutory requirements. Support the delivery of the V/Line Driver Training Program and the Train Driver Safety Assurance check process to ensure compliance. Actively engage with team members to seek continuous improvement initiatives through effective leadership, champion the development of an engaged culture where learning and development are encouraged. Implement safety strategies to address incidents and injury trends and ensure all accidents/incidents are reported, recorded, investigated, and taken corrective action. Lead and support your team through change, conveying an exciting future picture that motivates and drives others. About you
You are an experienced people leader and prioritise employee engagement to lead culture change and positive outcomes for your team. You set the standard for others to follow and maintain a sharp focus on safety and minimising risks. You are an exceptional communicator with strong influencing skills as demonstrated through your success in leading positive change.
You have excellent business and financial acumen and ideally a strong understanding of the public transport sector with qualifications in rail operations, business management or similar. You are a strong negotiator with experience working at a senior level managing Executives or Senior stakeholders within the organisation.
Key Requirements
Relevant qualifications in rail operations, business and/or equivalent experience. A strong understanding of the public transport sector and experience with IR Consultation is desired. Strong people leadership experience within a large team is a must. Experience leading and managing multiple large operational teams, with a focus on driving performance and achieving results. This role is a Medical Category 3 position.
