About the Organisation Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services LTD (KAMS ) is a well-established regional Aboriginal community controlled health service, founded in 1986, which provides centralised advocacy and resource support for 6 independent member services, as well as providing direct clinical services in a further 6 remote Aboriginal communities across the region.
KAMS has successfully delivered high-quality, accessible comprehensive primary health care services over its 22 years of operation and has provided innovation and national leadership in areas such as health information management and evidence based best practice in primary health care.
About Kimberley Supports Kimberley Supports is an enhancement program funded by the NDIA to provide equity and equality to Aboriginal families that have disabilities living in the Kimberley, providing culturally secure referral pathways to access NDIS assistance and support systems to enrich their lives.
The program includes early childhood development support for Aboriginal children aged 0-7 years of age. The Kimberley Supports Project officer is part of a multi-disciplinary team including Early Childhood Development Allied Health staff, Child Health Nurses, Remote Family Support Workers and NDIS Evidence and Access Planners.
About the Opportunity KAMS now has an opportunity for a Project Coordinator to join the Kimberley Supports team in Broome, WA , on a full-time basis. The role is responsible for the coordination, development, implementation and review of the Individual Capacity Building (ICB) program. The aim of the program is to build individual capacity and well-being of Aboriginal people living with disabilities in remote communities across the Kimberley.
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
Ensure appropriate ICB Program leadership. Supervise KAMS Kimberley Supports ICB Team staff members, including Project Officer and Administrative Officer. Ensure the Program and related staff or volunteers work within the identified KAMS values and appropriate culture. Coordinate the development and implementation of capacity-building programs that focus on skill development, empowerment, and community participation for individuals with disabilities. Build and maintain strong relationships with local Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, service providers, advocacy groups and other relevant organisations. The ideal candidate will have a qualification in Aboriginal Health Work, Community Development, Disability, Health Promotion, or a related discipline. You'll also require demonstrated commitment to the principles of Aboriginal Community Control and demonstrated knowledge of cultural safety principles and practices.
Ideally, you would have experience working in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation or an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community Organisation.
Please note: It is a requirement that successful candidates hold a current WA Working With Children Check, and be willing to undergo a National Police Check prior to employment with KAMS.
