Matters prosecuted by the DPP and the OPP involve serious crimes or matters that are of significance to the fair and effective operation of the Victorian criminal justice system.Full Time, Fixed Term – 12 MonthsSalary - $71,610paThe Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) has a number of exciting opportunities to join the OPP's Trial Division or Specialist Trial Prosecutions team as a Junior Solicitor!The position is suitable for solicitors who have recently been admitted to practice and have exposure to criminal jurisdiction or an interest in establishing a criminal practice skill base.Successful incumbents will have the opportunity to gain a variety of experience working on a wide range of cases through the OPP, predominantly preparing and conducting litigation in the Magistrates' and County Courts.Flexible working arrangements including working from home options are available following the successful completion of a training and probation period.About the Role:As a Junior Solicitor at the OPP you will be required to:Prepare and instruct in summary prosecutions, committals, appeals, trial and other hearings in the Magistrates' and County Court.Undertake research and analysis of legal issues and provide advice and recommendations as required.Ensure that cases are efficiently and expeditiously prepared and presented before the Court.As an ideal candidate you will have:Knowledge of Criminal Law and Procedure, the Law of Evidence and other relevant legislation.The ability to undertake legal research as required to prepare prosecutions of moderate complexity.High level interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise with relevant internal and external stakeholders.Positions are Melbourne based; however, occasional regional travel may be a requirement of the position.
