The opportunityCSIRO Publishing is an independent publisher of science and technology books, journals, and digital content, offering writing workshops to enhance scientists' skills.
Operating within CSIRO, our success relies on generating revenue and a strong return on investment.
We are looking for an experienced Journals Manager to lead the growth and impact of our journals in the Chinese market.
This role involves editorial engagement, content acquisition (including special collections), collaboration with authors and institutions, brand promotion, and identifying new business opportunities.
The ideal candidate will excel in relationship management and coordination to strengthen CSIRO Publishing's presence in China.
Your duties will include:Conduct market analyses to identify potential areas for expansion and development.Develop and implement strategies aimed at enhancing market share and journal impact.Monitor and report on key performance indicators and strategic outcomes regularly.Collaborate with regional partners to effectively promote CSIRO Publishing's content in the academic community.Develop comprehensive outreach plans through conference attendance, webinars, and roadshows to increase visibility.Build and maintain strong relationships with Chinese scientists to identify potential editorial board members and guest editors.Identify and acquire high-quality research content from Chinese authors and institutions, including special collections and thematic issues.Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by serving as the primary contact for clients, addressing inquiries promptly, and providing relevant information about products and services.Location: Melbourne is preferred; however, any capital city will be considered.
Salary: $93,267 - $105,517 per annum (pro-rata for part-time)

To be considered you will need:Essential Criteria:
Under CSIRO policy, only candidates who meet all essential criteria will be considered for appointment.
Extensive experience in STM journal publishing, including familiarity with Open Access business models.Fluency in Mandarin and English, with strong writing and presentation skills in both languages.Culturally sensitive and adaptable, with a solid understanding of Chinese academic and publishing practices.Relationship-oriented, with established networks within academic and research communities in China.Strategic thinker with a proactive approach to identifying and leveraging opportunities.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working collaboratively across cultures, within teams, and with diverse stakeholders.Exceptional project management and problem-solving abilities.Strong organisational skills, with the capability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.Desirable Criteria:

EligibilityApplications for this position are open to Australian/New Zealand Citizens, Australian Permanent Residents or you must either hold, or be able to obtain, a valid working visa for the duration of the specified term.
