About this OpportunityWithin the Operations and Infrastructure group, the Engineering and Field Operations team are an enabling resource for AIMS' Research Programs, through the management of Marine Infrastructure and the provision of related specialised services. An opportunity exists for a trade-based Field Technician to join the Engineering and Field Operations Team.
In this role you will impact the delivery of the AIMS Strategy 2025 by assisting scientific staff in the pursuit of research goals and objectives in both laboratory and field environments through the operation, maintenance, deployment and development of remote observing equipment. You will actively participate in the planning, deployment, operation and maintenance of field-deployed scientific equipment and instruments ensuring that all safety and legal standards are met and requirements for precision, accuracy and reliability are achieved.
Key ResponsibilitiesYou will liaise with research staff on the design, manufacture, fabrication and implementation of field-deployed observation and other engineering equipment. Your well-developed interpersonal skills and technical knowledge will enable you to effectively communicate with scientific staff to gain an understanding of their needs, develop innovative solutions and to explain design specifications and safety requirements for usage in a clear and understandable manner. You will provide support during remote off-shore field trips, in often demanding conditions for extended periods and at times with limited technical resources. During these field trips you will be required to apply your advanced workshop skills for field maintenance work, calibration and testing and fault finding of electronics hardware and mechanical components.
