As part of the Academy , the College of Science and Engineering promotes, supports and administers quality teaching, hands-on experiences, industry placements and research at JCU in the areas of Marine Biology & Aquaculture, Zoology and Ecology, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Information Technology, Physical Sciences, and Engineering.

About the opportunity In this position, you will play a crucial role in delivering James Cook University's Corporate Strategy by implementing cutting-edge teaching and research programs that build our capability and leadership in marine science, tectonics and critical mineral resources.
Your research experience will advance JCU's research profile in fundamental structural geology and tectonics and in applied structural geology related to critical mineral resources.
What you can bring to the role A PhD or equivalent qualification in geology or related discipline. Expertise in structural geology, tectonics and field geology, with applications in critical mineral resources and ore genesis. Demonstrated excellence in research, relative to career opportunity, leading to an emerging publication record and research income portfolio. Demonstrated ability to efficiently organise and implement research projects, and conduct collaborative, multi-disciplinary research within diverse teams. Capacity to independently conduct lectures, practicals, and assessment in the relevant discipline. Experience in the supervision of research internships, honours and/or postgraduate students or equivalent. Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment. Highly developed oral and written communication skills and the motivation to contribute to outreach and marketing activities. Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to relate to staff and students from all backgrounds, and to represent the College to government, industry, community groups and professional bodies.
