About the role: The Education Officer is integral in helping young people in the Intensive Therapeutic Transitional Care program (ITTC) to access and/or remain in education.
Using a diverse range of strategies and education options that will cater for the varied learning styles of individuals, and in conjunction with providing support and guidance throughout each young person's educational journey, the Education Officer will assist clients to achieve better quality education outcomes, assessing and recording these at regular intervals with the ultimate aim of success in their current educational setting or reintegration into an appropriate educational or vocational setting.
DCJ is implementing a new ITC system to support children and young people with high and complex needs who are either unable to be supported in foster care or require specialised and intensive supports to maintain stability in their care arrangements. Complex mental health, disability, emotional and behavioural issues are characteristics of these children and young people, resulting in behaviours that often present a risk to themselves and others in their immediate environment.
This is a Permanent Part-Time opportunity (19 Hours a week - Days are negotiable) based in Wilton, NSW within our Children, Youth and Families Program. The position reports to the Regional Manager. Key Selection Criteria: To be successful in this role, you will have:
Work collaboratively with the ITC team to develop strategies and plans for individual young people that address presenting education barriers, facilitate the development of new skills and perspectives, and increase engagement in education and training activities; As part of the intake process, assess the initial and ongoing educational needs of young people using a variety of assessments and teaching and learning strategies; Develop individual education plans for young people in collaboration with relevant others;Monitor and support each young person's development against their individual education plan with a view to transitioning the children and young people into mainstream and/or flexible learning options; Please address the full Key Selection Criteria outlined in the PD as part of your application.
