What is the role? The Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation is Western Australia's (WA) lead agency for economic development, international trade and investment, and tourism. It also leads the promotion and development of the defence, international education, science, and innovation sectors.
The Department is seeking an Investment and Trade Commissioner for the Americas region to be based in Austin, United States. This role will be offered for 3 years with the possibility of extension. The successful candidate will commence their role in Perth and be deployed overseas after an initial induction period.
In this role, you will be responsible for engaging with senior government and industry stakeholders to grow and diversify Western Australia's trade and investment relationships within the Americas region. You will lead and manage the Invest and Trade Western Australia Team in the Americas, provide strategic leadership and advice to the Western Australian Government to grow the State's economic relationships, and develop and implement significant investment and trade programs aligned with the State's priority sectors.
We are seeking a candidate with a strong working knowledge of international markets and business trends relevant to the Americas region and in-depth knowledge of the State's priority sectors, economic profile and market opportunities relevant to the region.
The candidate will also have a proven track record as a senior leader with experience in leading a successful team to achieve performance targets and organisational objectives as well as a demonstrated capability to effectively represent the Department and the Western Australian Government in a range of high level corporate and government settings both offshore and in Australia.
Successful candidates will be supported with an on-boarding program including engagement with Western Australian industry and public sector agencies, Departmental briefings, and cultural and language training (where necessary).
