Who we are
We are Australia's National Vocational Education and Training (VET) regulator.
What we do
We regulate providers that deliver VET qualifications and courses to students in Australia or offer Australian qualifications internationally, providers that deliver VET courses to overseas students, and certain providers that deliver English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students. We also accredit VET courses to make sure nationally approved standards are met.

We ensure quality VET so that students, industry, governments and the community have confidence in the integrity of national qualifications issued by training providers, and that students are protected from any practices that come at the expense of their ability to gain the required competencies.
The key duties of the position include:About the Opportunity
ASQA's Integrity Unit was formed in late 2023, following the Government's announcement to build on and enhance our existing capacity to prevent and detect threats to the integrity of VET, to deter and disrupt illegal behaviour and the exploitation of vulnerable students.
We are seeking an Investigator, who will work in the Investigations and Enforcement team within the Integrity Unit, planning, implementing and reporting on the effective and tactical use of ASQA's investigative and coercive powers, in cooperation with other regulators and law enforcement agencies, to deliver on ASQA's strategies to address threats to VET integrity.
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
working closely with the ASQA Intelligence function, including assessing and investigating integrity matters and working in multidisciplinary teams to design and deploy tactical response and evidence collection planssupporting investigations into deliberately non-compliant and allegedly fraudulent providers and persons of interest, including cases identified or referred by Government taskforces or partner agenciessupporting the preparation of briefs of evidence in accordance with Australian Government Investigations Standards and Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions guidelines and ensuring good administrative law decision-making principles are applied, including by writing quality briefs, reports, and statements of reasons to impose administrative sanctionsutilising authorised officer powers to gather evidence i.e. via unannounced site visits or support the execution of warrants to support ASQA in undertaking administrative actions to disrupt providers impacting the integrity and reputation of VETwhere applicable, investigating the conduct of non-registered training organisations (e.g. related entities) where they have influence over training quality and delivery, and where appropriate pass this intelligence on to the relevant agency or regulatorproviding insights from activities to feed into the development of tools and resources, and initiatives that support VET providers to strengthen their fraud prevention and control capabilities.Skills and experience
To succeed in this role, you will have:
a sound knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of, the legislative framework in which ASQA operatesdemonstrated experience in supporting a wide range of investigations in a complex regulatory environment including the use of enforcement tools and optionsan understanding of the impact of coercive powers relating to investigations and enforcement actionsanalytical thinking skills including the capacity to identify high quality evidence, and to evaluate options, benefits and risksattention to detail and strong organisational skills, including the ability to deliver quality outcomes on timea demonstrated ability to confidently present information (oral and written) in a clear, concise and articulate mannerproven ability to work collegiately and to build and sustain positive professional relationships.Mandatory Experience working in a Government regulatory environment or law enforcement.Availability to travel, involving overnight stays.Certificate IV in Government Investigations, or a willingness to obtain within a 12 month period.Desirable An understanding of the Australian Government Investigations Standards or the principles of good regulatory practice or experience working in the Vocational Education and Training sector in Australia with an understanding of the regulatory framework.What we offer
