Introducing Tsartlip'S Day Camp Coordinator, Sydney
Company:

Tsartlip Drum Group

Details of the offer

Meet Sydney, Tsartlip's Day Camp Coordinator. Read her introduction interview below. Can you tell us a bit about who you are and where you're from? My name is Sydney Griffith, and I will be working as Tsartlip Nation's Day Camp Coordinator. I spent the majority of my growing up on Stz'uminus First Nation territory, and have worked in and around Snuneymuxw. My father is a survivor of the Sixties' Scoop, and as a result, we are both on our journey of reconnection. Through my father, we are connected to Quw'utsun through my grandmother Alice Jimmy, as well as Sechelt First Nation through my grandmother Irene Silvey. My mother is a second-generation British immigrant. What experience and expertise do you bring to the table? I am currently going into my fourth year of my degree in Psychology and Indigenous Studies. Through my time there, I have been able to gain a broad understanding of health & wellness. My Indigenous Studies courses and my community engagement with the UVic's First People's House, has showed me how vital community is for our people's wellness. What kind of impact do you hope to have at Tsartlip First Nation? I hope to share the knowledge I've gained at university. But more importantly, I come to the Tsartlip Nation as a humble guest willing to learn. Huy ch q'u, thank you for this opportunity to do good work with the Tsartlip Nation.
