Role PurposeThe Internal Auditor is responsible for examining and evaluating the adequacy, effectiveness and efficiency of Capricorn's internal control systems and procedures; through supporting the delivery of an internal audit program by a third party and conducting internal audits personally.
The position helps Capricorn accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic and disciplined approach to the evaluation of the effectiveness of risk, control and governance processes; with associated recommendations for improvement.
Functional accountabilitiesSupport delivery of Capricorn's Internal Audit program in line with the 3 Lines of Defence model, with responsibilities including:Work with key stakeholders across the business and our external partners in a timely, respectful and efficient manner to deliver the audit plan and adhoc reviews and follow up and validate finding closures.Provide senior management and the Board with an opinion on the adequacy, effectiveness and efficiency of the internal controls in the organisation.Work with the Internal Audit Manager to develop the annual risk-based internal audit plan.Maintain the Internal Audit policy and associated procedures.Support as required, any external audit requests across the Capricorn group.Approach and risk cultureMaintain up to date competencies required for effective internal audit delivery, include changes in internal audit trends and methodologies;Develop strong, productive working relationships with stakeholders.Demonstrate effective use of influence and negotiating skills to resolve potential disagreement;Support the delivery of an improvement to Capricorn's risk culture through challenging the status quo and raising areas for continued improvement.Work effectively across the team to achieve the team vision and department goals.Role model accountability, courage, collaboration and trust.ExperienceMinimum of 3 years' experience in Internal Audit is essential demonstrating a sound knowledge of audit procedures, techniques, testing and sampling methods ideally with a background in large complex organisations / financial services sector.
Strong technical and analytical skills, with the ability to identify, quantify, and effectively raise business risks associated areas of non-compliance.
QualificationsBachelor degree in Commerce or Business.
Membership of the Institute of Internal Auditors Australia is desirable.
