As an accounting specialist, you will: Keep our internal accounting up to date and excellent.Ensure we comply with all income tax, PAYG, GST, superannuation, payroll tax and other obligations.Liaise with our external accountants to deliver a smooth year-end.As a logical and process-driven thinker, you will be involved in: Monitoring the health and effectiveness of internal processes.Finding ways to improve processes through elimination, automation or redesign.Working with our vendors to ensure we are adopting best practice in our use of their systems.As a numbers specialist, you will be responsible for: Gathering and reporting the financial and non-financial numbers we use to monitor the business.Analysing and generating insights from those numbers.Identifying areas for improvement.As an internal adviser, you will be involved in: Continually looking for ways to improve our numbers.Implementing systems and processes to deliver those improvements.Documenting our learnings in playbooks, articles and other materials.And because we believe forecasting is the backbone of business improvement, you will of course be heavily involved in developing, monitoring and maintaining our rolling forecasts.
This is a challenging and perhaps unusual role. It's also a growth role. We do not expect you to start out being excellent in every aspect. In fact, we know you will have blind spots and areas you need to work on, just like every human. Self-awareness and curiosity are essential as you develop your skills through education, experience and coaching.
Your background We think the best fit for this role is a tech-savvy person with:
3+ years in an internal accounting role with similar responsibilities.Qualifications that prove a level of dedication and learning – CA, CPA, CIMA.A track record of contributing to business performance.Communication skills and the ability to educate and influence.Curiosity, decisiveness and a growth mindset.To be effective in this role, you will need to be (or become) excellent at:
Our key systems: Accounting systems, CRM, payment gateways, billing systems … and of course Castaway.Our key revenue activities: Sales conversion, subscription management and gross/net revenue retention.Our industry context: A fast-growth SaaS business building, selling and supporting software across a global user base of accounting firms and SMEs.Business improvement: Forecasting, KPIs, analytics, business models, drivers, constraint theory, lean thinking, change management, project management and more.Priority will be given to applicants who follow the requested process.
