We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT.What Will You Do?In this role, you will be a key member of a high-performing team.Each Day, You Can Expect To:Provide representation and advice on practice and procedure in coronial inquest matters.Manage the Committals Practice by taking direct carriage of the committal matters arising.Appear in District Court short matters, especially sentence matters.Prepare and run complex Local Court ('LC') and Children's Court ('CC') hearings and sentence matters.Oversee the management of the LC/CC Practice.Directly supervise the mentoring of junior solicitors with the conduct of committal matters.Who Are We Looking For?You are a highly skilled and motivated individual with a thorough understanding of the cultural, social, and historical needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
You will be able to demonstrate:Legal qualifications and a NSW Practising Certificate with a minimum of 2 years' experience in Criminal Law and/or Coronial law.In-depth knowledge of the Criminal Law, including practice and procedure.Proven capacity to provide a strong advocacy role in leading the District Court and Committal Practices, along with the LC/CC practice.Demonstrated management, supervisory and mentoring skills of a multidisciplinary team of staff.Capacity to provide high quality legal representation and advice to Aboriginal people and deal with any complaints by clients and/or family members.Why Join Us?At ALS, you can discover a fulfilling career that truly makes an impact in the community.
