Intake Officer/Case Officer - Aboriginal Identified Note: This is an Identified position for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People. Aboriginality is a genuine qualification authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination ACT 1977

Wellington Aboriginal Corporation Health Service (WACHS) is an Aboriginal community-controlled health organisation that aims to empower Aboriginal people to take control of their individual, family, and community health and wellbeing needs through our clinical and community programs. Our main services are in Wellington, Dubbo, Moree, Western Sydney, Penrith, Nepean, and Blue Mountains, and we provide outreach services to other towns and communities through our regional programs. The Intake Officer/Case Officer is a key member of the Social and Emotional Wellbeing Team, responsible for delivering culturally sensitive and respectful support services to Aboriginal people. This role focuses on providing holistic and client-centred support to individuals and families affected by drug and alcohol issues. Key responsibilities include:

Assess client needs and provide appropriate referrals to counselling services. Thorough understanding of reading criminal histories. Understanding of Pharmacotherapy (Medications). Knowledge of Mental Health Training. Input client data into the Communicare database. Act with tact and diplomacy when dealing with information of a highly sensitive nature. Relevant tertiary qualifications. First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain). CPR Certificate (or willingness to obtain). A Certificate of Aboriginality. A Current National Police Check. A Current Working with Children Check NSW (or willingness to obtain). Valid Australian Driver's License. COVID-19 Vaccination and Booster information (or evidence of a valid medical exemption). Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) with the ability to learn new software systems. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal clients, communities, and stakeholders. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with clients. Experience with report writing and data entry. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with team members and external agencies. Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to Aboriginal culture and history, and current issues affecting the lives of Aboriginal people.
