Position Summary The Instrumental Music Tutor at St Luke's Anglican School is responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging music lessons to individual students and groups from Years 4 to 12. The role includes working with a range of instrumental ensembles and contributing to the broader music program. The tutor is expected to participate in department meetings and support key events such as music camps, competitions, and performances outlined in the Performing Arts Calendar, ensuring a well-rounded and enriching musical experience for students.
Position Responsibilities These responsibilities may be modified occasionally to ensure the expected outcomes are coordinated with the School's Strategic Plan. Without limiting the above, the key responsibilities and duties shall include:
Plan and deliver engaging individual and group music lessons to students from Years 4-12 Work with various ensembles as required, supporting the development of student musicianship Attend selected department meetings, music camps, competitions, and concerts as scheduled Collaborate closely with the Director of Co-curricular Cultural Activities, and other Performing Arts and co-curricular staff to ensure cohesive program delivery Take responsibility for the safety, well-being, and appropriate behaviour and presentation of all students Maintain clear and open communication with fellow staff, students, and parents Act as a positive role model, demonstrating professionalism and integrity Strive to implement best teaching practices, continually seeking to improve instructional methods Support colleagues by cooperating with and equitably sharing the workload Thoroughly plan all lessons and systematically monitor student performance to ensure progress Actively promote the co-curricular life of the School, encouraging student participation in music-related activities Adhere to, and implement all School routines and procedures consistently Develop and maintain an environment conducive to student learning and engagement Participate in professional development to maintain and enhance teaching skills and knowledge Encourage and foster parent involvement in school music activities and events. Education / Experience / Professional Qualifications Essential Working with Children Check (Blue Card or Exemption Card) Experience in a similar role A Bachelor of Music from an accredited university or equivalent qualification. Desirable Current First Aid, CPR, Asthma, and Anaphylaxis certificates Conducting experience and/or qualifications relevant to the teaching area. Characteristics, Qualities and Skills Proven ability to teach Instrumental Music effectively across various levels Successful experience in preparing and guiding students through A.M.E.B. Examinations Skilled in conducting instrumental ensembles with demonstrated success Passionate and committed educator with the ability to collaborate effectively within a dynamic team environment Competence in incorporating ICT into teaching and learning to enhance student outcomes Eagerness to engage in the School's diverse co-curricular program Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, and parents from diverse backgrounds Proven ability to enthuse, inspire and guide students The proven ability to work as an effective and constructive team member, with a willingness to participate fully in School activities Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen and liaise effectively across all areas of a school community to achieve successful outcomes Superior organisational ability with demonstrated self-motivation and initiative in goal-setting, prioritising work and managing multiple tasks Well-developed problem-solving skills and proven experience in creating solutions Outstanding verbal and written communication skills Demonstrated personal resilience, including the ability to work in a demanding role, often outside of normal hours A high degree of professional judgement and confidentiality A genuine interest and willingness to engage in professional development and learning opportunities Flexible, approachable and consistent in manner A high level of energy and vitality Key Challenges Maintain a high level of inspiration and engagement among students over time, overcoming potential obstacles to student motivation and ensuring sustained enthusiasm for learning Address the diverse needs of all students through tailored teaching methods while balancing the demands of providing quality educational outcomes and adapting to various learning styles and abilities Manage and prioritise multiple responsibilities effectively, including lesson planning, student assessments, and participation in school events, while ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard. Physical Capabilities Ability to move around the school campus to conduct individual and group lessons, participate in music camps, and attend various events, including competitions and concerts Involvement in setting up and managing music equipment, which may involve lifting, arranging, and transporting instruments and teaching materials Comfortably standing for extended periods during rehearsals, lessons, and performances, as well as sitting for long durations while teaching or attending meetings Capability to project one's voice clearly and effectively when conducting lessons, leading ensembles, and addressing large groups Skill in handling and playing various musical instruments, which requires fine motor control and coordination. Workplace Health and Safety Take full responsibility for compliance with the school's Workplace Health and Safety Policy, safe work procedures, instructions and rules, particularly in the correct use of equipment Identify any unsafe behaviour, or unsafe or unhealthy conditions, and report these to the Principal Adopt risk management strategies to minimise risk of injury to people and property in the workplace Be responsible for own health and safety and for the health and safety of others in the workplace who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work Co-operate with the Principal or other person so far as is necessary to enable compliance with any requirements under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and the regulations that are imposed in the interests of health, safety and welfare on the Diocese or any other person. Immediate Supervisor: Director of Co-Curricular Cultural Activities
Key Relationships: Effective working relationships with the Principal and the Executive Team; Internal and external liaison with all staff, students, parents and various other stakeholders.
