Our Australian laboratory, located in Sinnamon Park QLD, offers a dynamic work environment with state-of-the-art facilities.About the Inspections DepartmentOur professional inspection and superintendence services support our clients across several key commodity markets (agriculture, coal etc.) by representing and protecting their interests. Our representation ensures that quality and quantity requirements are supervised during loading or discharge.Our team of Inspectors / Surveyors, who are autonomous in the field, work closely alongside their colleagues in the Inspections, Laboratory and Administration / Export documentation departments in a way that supports our culture of collaboration.We are now looking to fill a new role of Inspection Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for heading up and managing the Inspections department and ensuring the highest standards of quality and integrity in commodity inspection services, providing excellent customer service and value to our clients.About the RoleThe postholder will be responsible for managing our inspection services across Australia, maintaining our stakeholder network and developing business opportunities across key regions. The Inspection Manager will play a key role in maximising productivity, diversification, and scalability and ensuring our services are delivered accurately and efficiently.To succeed in a management capacity, the Inspection Manager must actively participate in opportunities to learn, and it is important to have a growth mindset and be open to innovation and change as our business develops in a way that is synonymous with our growth plans and objectives.Additionally, when required, the postholder may be required to undertake cargo inspection and loading supervision duties, so the Inspection Manager must have both an operational and business focus.Operational responsibilities include inspection, surveying, and superintendence services of coal and minerals as well as agricultural soft commodities to support the sustainable trade activities across the supply chain. Operational tasks require a high level of professionalism, reliability, and accuracy.Duties and ResponsibilitiesManagement ResponsibilitiesLeadership, Communication and Team EffectivenessOversee Inspections department operations to ensure the business meets quality and delivery standards.Work with Senior Management to ensure that operational activities remain on time and within budget, and to translate business strategy into actionable steps for growth and/or improved efficiency of existing processes and procedures that enhance the department's capacity.Communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, with managers, staff, and stakeholders in a proactive, timely and effective manner, so to ensure efficient and consistent operations.Lead Inspections department team meetings and assist peers and colleagues where required.Support with the recruitment and onboarding of newcomers to the department by working with relevant colleagues, ensuring that appropriate orientation and training programs are in place and carried out.Provide the necessary support to team members to foster a highly inclusive culture that ensures team members can thrive and that organisational goals are met.Lead the performance review process across the Inspections department.Support Senior Management with annual people management activities including remuneration review and team development/succession plans.Foster effective collaboration between departments and cross-functional teams.Ensure adherence to all policies, procedures, standards, specifications, guidelines, and training programs within the Inspections department.Client Relationship Management and Business DevelopmentMaintain our stakeholder network by acting as a key point of contact for clients, addressing enquiries, providing updates, and ensuring overall satisfaction.Collaborate with the Senior Management and sales teams to understand client needs and contribute to business development efforts, delivering against any business development metrics as required.Handle and resolve customer complaints promptly and professionally, aiming for effective issue resolution.HSEQAdhere to Health and Safety policies/Code of Practices and ensure the adoption of the aforementioned policies and practices.Work with the Quality representative, leadership, management, and operational teams to ensure that standards and accreditations i.e. ISO, are maintained.Implement and uphold safety and quality control measures across the Inspections department to guarantee safe and accurate results.Maintenance of internal databases and QMS.Operational ResponsibilitiesInspection and SamplingPerform the inspection and sampling of agricultural and other commodities as per the required standards and procedures.Surveying and superintendence of bulk vessel loading and discharge.Bulk liquid tank sampling and gauging.Timely sample collection, preparation, and delivery for analysis. Ensure that samples are sent with clear testing instructions in a timely manner to the laboratory for analysis.Organise couriers and other suppliers so that samples are sent to laboratories in a timely and efficient manner.Ensure that all reports are completed and sent to the required personnel as per the required timeframes, using MS Office.Assist in the coordination of subcontractors used at other locations to ensure that the inspection, sampling, and reporting requirements are performed in a timely manner and standard.Liaise with the office/vessel agents/terminals and or packing sites to ensure the seamless execution of the required superintendent services.Correspond with customers and management to ensure all work is conducted in a timely manner meeting all performance requirements.Conduct other activities, including but not limited to hold inspections and hose tests when appropriately trained.Ensure that port inductions and MSIC remain valid.Manage work hours within the National Employment Scheme (NES) and company policies.General Administration and ReportingAssist, where directed, the Administration team in the execution of certificates and analytical reports.Submit expense claims, timesheets, and general reports as per the required schedule and timeframes.About You - Experience, Skills, Traits and RequirementsExperience in agricultural soft commodity industries essential, with strong knowledge of industry practices and standards.Previous cargo inspection/terminal operations experience within agricultural commodities/coal essential.Experience working to and the maintenance of quality systems i.e. ISO 17020.Experience in team management and client relationship/customer management.Experience identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing strategies to enhance operational efficiency highly desirable.Able to work autonomously and lead a team to provide consistent, successful outcomes.Able to demonstrate a high level of competence in Microsoft Packages, excellent MS Word and Excel skills.Able to liaise with stakeholders on all levels.Able to communicate effectively in verbal and written form.Relevant qualifications or professional training/competency favourable.Organised, good time management and able to maintain standards.Self-driven, and proactive individual.Solutions focused with strong analytical skills and comfortable resolving issues independently.Always operates professionally.Seeks information from a range of sources; makes sound decisions based on own knowledge and expertise.Willingness and ability to travel interstate to assist with services when required.Must have a car and a valid and current driver's license.Join Our FamilyAt Control Union, we value our employees as part of our extended family.
