The WCWR is a 35km, narrow-gauge heritage tourist railway based in Queenstown on the remote west coast of Tasmania.
The railway tells the story of the west coast by following in the footsteps of the original railway, constructed in the 1890s to transport copper from the local mine to Strahan.
The railway was closed in 1963 and reopened as a tourist railway in 2000.
The WCWR comprises a Rail Division that includes a mechanical workshop, rail operations and infrastructure maintenance teams, and a Commercial Division that includes product marketing, customer services and corporate support services.
THE ROLE: The primary objective of this role is to ensure WCWR's infrastructure assets are maintained and fit for purpose.
This includes oversight of track engineering, inspection and maintenance activities.
The Infrastructure Assets Manager will support the Rail Division Manager by providing technical advice and guidance on infrastructure risks.
KEY DUTIES & FOCUS: Provide leadership and support to the Infrastructure Maintenance team and specialist contractors to achieve WCWR objectives.Provide ownership of the WCWR's Infrastructure Inspection and Maintenance manual, ensuring that it remains current and fit for purpose.Ensure that all track inspections are undertaken on time and to standard.Assess defects arising from inspections and review prioritisation.Develop and manage the 10-year track infrastructure maintenance, upgrade and renewals plans, including the identification/remediation of operational risks, resource allocation and ensuring effective supply.Ensure the ongoing safety, performance and viability of civil infrastructure by identifying key risks, recurrent and scheduled periodic work programs and integrating them into the WCWR Management systems.Ensure all civil infrastructure maintenance work plans and programs comply with the Safety Management System, Australian Standards, WH&S legislation, national rail safety laws and all WCWR policies and procedures and develop reports to management demonstrating compliance to the above.Provide high level technical expertise, guidance and advice to the Rail Division on all aspects of rail infrastructure maintenance and renewals.Ensure Infrastructure staff develop and retain sufficient skills and knowledge to perform their roles and develop their career paths.Mentor and coach team members as required.Keep abreast of emerging technologies and determine how they can be used to best enhance the long-term sustainability of the business.Work collaboratively with other staff across the company to deliver a safe and engaging experience for our customers.QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 10 years' experience in rail maintenance, renewals or relevant civil engineering discipline.Demonstrated experience in managing operational budgets and large civil/rail projects.Certificate IV in Rail Infrastructure or demonstrated equivalent experience.Bachelor of Engineering (Rail specific qualifications will be highly regarded).High level communication, consultation and negotiation skills.Demonstrated experience in managing and coaching work teams to achieve superior results.Sound knowledge of Work Health & Safety and Environmental legislation and related work practices.Experience in the development and implementation of maintenance programs and budgets with ability to understand and undertake budgetary analysis and prepare budget reports.Covering letter outlining how you are suited to this exciting opportunity.Current resume demonstrating your competencies and experiences relevant to the role.WCWR has zero tolerance for drugs and alcohol in the workplace and conducts random drug and alcohol tests.
