About the role
This role heads up FPDN's individual advocacy programs, with full responsibility for service delivery and leading a team of dedicated advocates who work directly with clients. Advocacy services are client-focused and aligned to the Disability Advocacy Standard, enabling clients to exercise their human rights.
In addition to leading and coaching your team, this role will see you designing advocacy models, managing day-to-day client service operations, undertaking promotional activities (including engaging with community), liaising with funders to manage and report on contracts, developing and implementing best practice processes for optimal client experience and outcomes, and compliance with legislative requirements. As part of the senior management team, you will also contribute more broadly to FPDN's direction and development.
This role is available on a fully remote or hybrid basis, depending on your location. FPDN has offices in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. Regular travel to offices and locations of the advocacy team is required, as well as attendance to periodic in-person meetings and FPDN events.

Demonstrated connections with First Nations communities and experience working with First Nations peopleA strong understanding of human rights, disability rights, First Nations rights, and the intersectional discrimination facing First Nations people with disabilitiesA solid understanding of the disability sector and knowledge of the current funding landscapeAt least 3 years' experience in leading and managing a team in a complex service setting, including leading an individual disability advocacy serviceApplied knowledge of the principles of disability advocacy and empowerment from a service user perspectiveWell-developed communication, stakeholder relationship, interpersonal and decision-making skillsStrong ICT and computer literacyRelevant tertiary qualifications well regardedThis is an identified role and is open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants only, in accordance with Section 14(D) of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act, 1977 NSW.
