The Indigenous Liaison Officer will support the work of the Committee Office by improving the way secretariats and committees engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, networks and organisations.
The Indigenous Liaison Officer will establish and maintain effective professional networks with a diverse range of stakeholders, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations. The Indigenous Liaison Officer will promote and facilitate culturally appropriate interactions and communication between Senate committees and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and provide advice on cultural protocols and matters affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. All tasks require the Indigenous Liaison Officer to exercise sound judgement, manage a range of stakeholder expectations, and navigate politically and culturally sensitive issues.
As this is a new position, the successful applicant will be offered a 12 month non-ongoing engagement, with the possibility of extension or ongoing employment.
