The Indigenous Fisheries Policy and Engagement Officer will support Kimberley TOs to protect and conserve their marine and aquatic resources. The role will progress the Indigenous fishing agenda in the Kimberley by improving regional compliance with local customary harvest protocols through community engagement, education, and liaison with TOs.
The position operates out of the Broome KLC office with regular travel to the Dampier Peninsula, Derby, Wyndham, and other remote Kimberley locations. The successful applicant will be required to work irregular hours and at a range of locations throughout the Kimberley.
Time away from home may also be required. On some occasions, this may involve living on vessels or camping on islands for short periods. Given the conditions outlined, the applicant needs to ensure they understand and accept these requirements and have discussed them with their families.

Kimberley Land Council (KLC) is seeking a full-time Lawyer based in Broome, Western Australia.
This role reports to the Senior Legal Officer and is responsible for delivering legal services related to native title rights, Aboriginal cultural heritage, and corporate governance. The position involves frequent travel throughout the Kimberley, including remote locations, with a mix of office-based work and travel to attend meetings. Company pool vehicles will be provided for work-related travel.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Providing high-quality legal advice to native title parties and clients on native title claims, compensation claims, land use agreements, future acts, and corporate governance.Advising on the protection and preservation of native title rights and interests, native title compensation claims, future act matters, and heritage protection.Representing clients in proceedings before courts and tribunals.Attending and advising at various meetings and forums, often in remote locations.Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective delivery of legal services.This role offers a unique opportunity to engage with Indigenous communities, contribute to First Nations' self-determination, and safeguard their cultural heritage.

Nyul Nyul Country is on the Western Coast of the Dampier Peninsula, North of Broome, Western Australia.
Nyul Nyul Country is managed accordingly and the Nyul Nyul IPA has been dedicated over 144,500 ha of land and sea on which Nyul Nyul people have sole, not shared native title rights and have management influence.
Country within the native title boundary, but outside the IPA is shared with neighbouring Jabirr Jabirr and Nimanburr people. As neighbouring Traditional Owners build their capacity to develop land and sea management programs, the Nyul Nyul people will collaborate on shared country activities that align with common priorities for those areas.
About the Role: The Nyul Nyul Healthy Country Coordinator will be responsible for managing Nyul Nyul stakeholder relationships and Traditional Owner governance as it relates to looking after country, as well as operational implementation and monitoring oversight of the Nyul Nyul Healthy Country and IPA Management Plan 2024 – 2034, in conjunction with the Nyul Nyul Country Operations Plan.
This position will be supported by funding from the IPA program administered by DCEEW and NIAA.
The position will be a KLC Land and Sea Unit (LSMU) Employee and work with the cultural direction of Nyul Nyul Healthy Country Steering Committee & Nyul Nyul PBC.
Who We're Looking For: The ideal person in this role will come with a strong passion for working in Indigenous Land and Sea Management alongside Traditional Owners.
You will be a great communicator and partnership manager, strategic thinker with strong organisational skills and experience undertaking on-country programs with Traditional Owners.
