Hey You! genU is looking for compassionate staff to assist those with disabilities or a mental health diagnosis to manage the challenges of day-to-day life, build supports and increase their independence within their own home, community, and other settings. This role would be perfect for someone studying in the human services field or someone with lived experience in disability or mental health.
The role of the Independent Lives Skills Mentor is to use strength-based and recovery-based practices to assist participants to live with greater independence and to pursue a life based on their own strengths and goals.
You will assist and support participants to work towards their goals. These could include:
Obtain accommodation and maintain tenancy obligations; Develop independent living skills; Maintain good health and wellbeing; Develop social skills and build relationships to overcome isolation and increase connections; Connect with local services and supports in their community; Learn strategies to overcome barriers that limit independence. These supports will be within participants' homes and the local community. You will also undertake a range of administrative tasks such as file noting and reporting. About You? Our ideal Independent Lives Skills Mentor is an effective communicator (both written and verbal) and has the ability to easily build rapport with participants and a range of key stakeholders. You will be able to demonstrate that you can work autonomously, you have strong administrative ability and have sound organisation skills.
Current NDIS Worker Screening Check or willingness to obtain; Current Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain; Driver's license and vehicle; NDIS Worker Orientation Module; Certificate IV in Disability or Mental Health, and/or other relevant qualification; Sound understanding and experience in delivering person centred supports; Experience working in the NDIS environment; First Aid and Current CPR with 12 months.
