Join the dynamic team with our client as an EL1 equivalent Independent Advisor.
EL1 equivalent payrate $602+per day plus super Located in Brisbane, Queensland About the Team The Independent Advisory Council (IAC) provides critical advice to enhance outcomes for people with disability, drawing on the lived experiences of individuals, carers, and sector experts.
Working independently of government agencies, the IAC focuses on identifying and addressing strategic challenges within the disability sector.
Its efforts are supported by reference groups, a Senior Independent Advisor, and a dedicated Secretariat.
The IAC's priorities, outlined in an annual workplan, aim to improve accessibility, equity, and inclusivity across services, with a strong emphasis on collaboration, capacity building, and delivering meaningful change for diverse cohorts, including young people and those with intellectual disabilities.
About the Role As an EL1 Independent Advisor, you will provide expert guidance and work closely with the IAC's principal member, senior advisors, and other stakeholders to achieve council priorities.
This includes supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities and young people, as well as fostering peer support mechanisms.
Collaborating with the IAC's Principal Member, reference groups, and stakeholders to address strategic challenges.
Facilitating meetings and discussions for IAC's five reference groups.
Providing tailored support to reference group members, including mentoring and capacity-building activities.
Conducting research and preparing high-quality discussion papers, reports, and advice.
Representing the IAC in high-level discussions with external providers and organisations.
Supporting the induction of new IAC and reference group members.
Managing projects aligned with the IAC and reference group work plans.
Promoting accessible communications, including drafting plain-English advice and documents.
About you To thrive in this role, you need: Demonstrated understanding of lived experience and the disability sector.
Proven ability to support individuals in advocating for their needs and concerns.
Strong conflict resolution skills to manage differing views and build consensus.
Experience developing accessible communications, including plain English documents.
Expertise in providing strategic advice, backed by research and analysis.
Knowledge of disability-related systems and their interface with mainstream services.
Ability to provide technical and subject-matter expertise to shape impactful advice.
Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and intersectionality.
Experience in capacity-building initiatives and peer-led support models.
Be able to pass and hold a national police check and worker screening check.
Must be an Australian Citizen.
