Salary: $109,730 - $132,764 (Plus Superannuation)

The Role
The Senior Solicitor will undertake a wide variety of work, primarily with responsibility for providing advice and drafting documentation on complex Commercial Law matters affecting the Department.
The Branch's role is to provide high quality legal and legislative advice and services on a broad range of matters across the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions. The department covers a diverse range of portfolios, including:

Jobs and Industry
Creative Industries
Tourism, Sport and Major Events
Economic Growth
Skills and TAFE
Medical Research
Small Business
Regional Development
Employment

The responsibilities of the Senior Solicitor, Commercial Law will include:

Providing authoritative and strategic advice on complex and sensitive legal, legislative and policy issues and proposals.
Drafting and reviewing a range of legal documentation, including agreements and instruments, dealing with sensitive and complex issues, including development of precedents and conduct negotiations to settle documentation.
Managing the delivery of legal and legislative services, including provision of legal services by external providers to ensure high quality advice and value for money.

The Team
The position of Senior Solicitor, Commercial Law forms a part of the Legal and Legislation branch within the Corporate Services group.
The Legal and Legislation Branch provides high quality, strategic legal advice, litigation services, legislative services and legal policy advice to the Secretary, Ministers, departmental executive management and other senior staff to support the achievement of government policy and departmental objectives. The Branch is also responsible for the management of DJSIR's Freedom of Information requests.
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:

Experience negotiating and drafting a wide range of legal documentation particularly in the commercial context.
Demonstrated ability to provide strategic and authoritative advice on legal and commercial issues in a high-volume practice.
Demonstrated ability to liaise effectively and work collaboratively with key stakeholders, including providing advice to senior executives and Ministers.
