The Role:
The Legal Counsel plays an important role in optimising contractual and commercial arrangements, assisting this Top Tier university to comply with its legal obligations under Federal, State and subsidiary legislation.
The provision of legal advice, drafting legal documents, representing the institution at hearings as required, liaising with external specialist lawyers when necessary, and raising staff awareness of legal issues are all part of the role of Legal Counsel, as is working cooperatively to achieve positive outcomes for the broader team and University.
Provide legal services to optimise contractual and commercial agreements.
Offer legal advice on employment, contract, torts, industrial, administrative, criminal, property, and IP law.
Resolve legal disputes through application of policy and knowledge of the law.
Draft and review legal documents, including FOI decisions.
Conduct legal research and maintain legal precedent documents.
Enhance staff legal framework understanding through awareness initiatives.
Stay updated with legal trends to provide high quality advice.
What skills and experience will you need:
Admitted to the Supreme Court of Western Australia.
3-5+ years PQE, preferably with broad in-house counsel experience.
Excellent communication and presentation skills for diverse audiences.
Strategic thinking to support the long-term vision and commercial aspirations of the university.
Excellent problem solving ability to develop practical solutions.
Strong sense of accountability and transparency in achieving organisational goals.
Ability to build and maintain strategic partnerships for achieving objectives.
