The Client
Our client is a leading renewable energy company with a vast presence across the Asia-Pacific region. They are at the forefront of developing, constructing, and operating renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, and energy storage, with a focus on sustainability and innovation. To support their growing portfolio in Australia, they are seeking a Senior Associate, Legal to join their in-house Brisbane team.
The Role
As the Senior Associate, Legal, you will play a critical role in supporting the legal needs of renewable energy projects across Australia, with the opportunity to also collaborate with teams across nine APAC countries. Your responsibilities will include:
Leading negotiations and documentation for key construction agreements (e.g., EPC, O&M, and EPCM contracts);
Advising on and managing a variety of commercial agreements, including land leasing, power purchase agreements, and joint ventures;
Managing legal disputes related to renewable energy projects, including participating in formal dispute resolution processes;
Working closely with external counsel, managing legal budgets, and ensuring timely delivery of external legal advice;
Providing support on regional legal initiatives and compliance matters, including anti-bribery and modern slavery issues.
About You
The ideal candidates will be commercially astute and have a passion for the renewable energy sector. You will also have:
A Bachelor of Laws from Australia and Admission as a Lawyer in Queensland;
5-6 years of experience in a reputable commercial law firm, with at least 3 years in front-end construction practice;
Proven ability to negotiate complex construction agreements and manage high-stakes legal matters;
Strong communication skills, with the ability to deliver clear, commercial legal advice to non-lawyers;
Whilst not essential, experience in M&A, joint ventures, or power purchase agreements is valuable;
In-house experience or secondments in the construction or energy sectors is ideal but not required;
A self-driven attitude and the ability to work independently while managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
