The role involves collaborating with local partners, government agencies, and community organisations to create a unified approach to addressing homelessness through strategic planning and engagement.
This position focuses on building strong effective relationships, capturing data and developing strategies, and encouraging collaboration across the community. With professionalism, autonomy, and excellent communication skills, the Local Community Coordinator provides direction and support to ensure effective decision-making and problem-solving that leads to sustainable outcomes.
As part of the Advance to Zero mission, the Local Community Coordinator helps bring together stakeholders in Geraldton to strengthen the local response to homelessness. By developing governance frameworks, leading local initiatives, and facilitating key discussions, the role ensures that all parts of the community work together to create long-term solutions.
Your Key Responsibilities Collaborate with the WA Alliance and Advance to Zero (A2Z) initiative to address homelessness in Geraldton. Build and maintain strong positive relationships with government departments, local councils, community services, and other stakeholders to drive collaborative action. Facilitate regular meetings with services, committees, and local rough sleeper coordination groups. Develop and implement strategic action plans aligned with program frameworks to address homelessness effectively. Represent the program through public speaking at community meetings, media engagements, and conferences across WA. Oversee program administration, including reporting, data & statistical analysis, routine correspondence, referrals and advocacy efforts. Drive systemic change by fostering stakeholder collaboration and continuous improvement to create sustainable solutions. Use data-driven approaches to evaluate program outcomes, inform decision-making, and adapt strategies to emerging needs. Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of services to ensure quality improvement. Requirements for Success With a background in Homelessness, Community Services and/or Mental Health sectors, you will be confident to engage with many types of people and build relationships quickly, or use your pre-existing networks within the local community, to establish credibility and drive engagement. Other requirements include:
Tertiary qualification in Community Development, Community Services, or a related discipline, would be highly advantageous. Proven ability to build effective relationships and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including government, community organizations, and service providers. Cultural competence and a commitment to working respectfully and effectively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Proficiency in preparing high-quality written materials such as submissions, reports, case studies, and briefs on trends and outcomes. Competence in using software and databases, including Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and stakeholder or project management tools. Strong knowledge of human services, local service systems, and best practices, with the ability to navigate complex service landscapes. Highly developed communication skills, including verbal, written, interpersonal, and public speaking abilities, with confidence in facilitating discussions and presenting to various audiences. Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights and communicate them effectively to stakeholders. A high degree of initiative, professionalism, and autonomy, with the ability to manage complex tasks across mixed management structures involving internal and external stakeholders. Capacity to navigate the challenges of being the sole local representative of the program, while effectively leveraging remote support from the broader team. Full driver licence with no restrictions. Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
