Key duties and responsibilities:Undertake surface water resource assessments and reporting, ensuring consistency with standards for data and statistical analyses and hydrological modelling.Review and provide technical advice regarding the assessment, management and development of surface water resources to inform management decisions.Assist with management of flood warning systems and undertake operational flood modelling activities to support emergency flood management operations.Assess flood risk for towns and communities and manage program of flood studies for risk management.Critically assess and revise water monitoring programs.Prepare reports within designated timeframes, including financial, technical and progress reports for external and internal reporting requirements. Selection criteria:Essential:Degree in Hydrology, Science or similar relevant tertiary qualification relevant to the key duties and responsibilities.Experience in data collection, management, analyses, quality assurance and statistical evaluation.Ability to critically assess effectiveness of water monitoring activities.Experience in hydrological modelling and ability to undertake operational flood modelling and flood advice activities.Ability and willingness to undertake remote area hydrological field investigations.Experience using spatial tools for the analysis and presentation of water resource datasets.Excellent report writing skills and commitment to deliver within required timeframes. Desirable:Knowledge of North Australian hydrology and water legislation.Commitment to undertake further industry-based study as required.Ability to deliver water related information to a range of audiences.
