As a High Voltage Protection Engineer, you'll report directly to the General Manager of High Voltage. This pivotal role involves testing, maintaining, and commissioning secondary systems and various high voltage (HV) equipment. Key responsibilities will include performing relay testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting for both new and existing installations.
The position will be primarily site-based. When not on a FIFO roster, you'll be working locally at our Fortitude Valley office.
Benefits: Competitive salary with FIFO site and project work as requiredOpportunities for professional development and continuing educationSafety conscious and collaborative work environmentCareer advancement potential within the companyGreat team cultureResponsibilities: Design and develop relay settings, logic, and schemes to ensure the safety and reliability of power systems.Perform relay testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting for new and existing installations using Omicron CMC356.Collaborate with project teams to provide specialised technical knowledge in power system protection.Stay updated with the latest industry standards and best practices in protection relay engineering.Prepare and maintain technical reports, documentation, and relay settings files.Offer training and mentorship to junior technicians.Manage the commissioning, testing, and maintenance of HV protection systems and schemes (including IEC61850/GOOSE communications), as well as primary plant systems such as power generation systems and power transformers.Lead and supervise technicians, providing technical support and training.Develop commissioning/testing documentation, protection test plans, and detailed technical reports upon project completion.About You: To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience: A minimum of 5 years' experience in HV technical roles.Expertise in relay coordination software and protective relay settings.Strong understanding of industry standards and regulations (e.g., IEEE, IEC, AS).Proficient in using the Omicron suite and other secondary and primary test equipment, along with associated software.Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.Capable of working independently and as part of a team.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.Familiarity with IEC61850 and GOOSE messaging through IED Scout is advantageous.Proven track record of delivering projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.Credentials: Trade Certification / AQF Cert Level 3 Electro Tech.QLD Electrical (or Fitter and Mechanic) Workers License.An Engineering Degree or Diploma in Power Systems (highly regarded)Current CPR/LVR (within the last 9 months).Current Unrestricted C Class Driver's License.White / Blue Construction Card.About Us: PHE has 50 years' history providing safe, rewarding, long-term employment in regional areas.
