Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland's Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in Northwest Queensland and Western Australia.
Job Description We are seeking a passionate, relationship-driven Human Resources Officer to join our HR team based at our award-winning Aquila Mine in Middlemount, QLD. This fast-paced and dynamic position is based on-site where you will support the mine's Human Resources Business Partnering portfolio, providing both corporate and site Human Resources systems, processes, and services across the full employment lifecycle in this true "hands-on" Human Resources generalist role.
As the Human Resources Officer, you are responsible for: Supporting the HR Superintendent in the provision of sound advice to line managers in all aspects of HR management to assist in the delivery of the business plan. Providing support to employees and managers with general HR and payroll enquiries and resolving issues and problems. Providing advice, coaching, and support to operational teams in relation to the entire employee lifecycle including recruitment, employee engagement, learning and development, performance management, employee relations, and absence management. Championing pipeline programs for Aquila Mine including Vacation Students, Apprentices & Graduates. Building and fostering collaborative relationships with both employees and leaders, whilst managing the Human Resources plans and key performance indicators. Effective implementation of HR policies, procedures, industrial instruments, initiatives, and programs at Aquila Mine. Dealing with industrial and employee relations, unions, and employee representatives within your scope. Assisting with the management of service contractors. Qualifications The key attributes contributing to your success in this role will include:
Tertiary qualification in Human Resources, or a related discipline (desirable). Experience working in mining, heavy industry, or construction (desirable). Resilient nature, openness for change, and demonstrated ability to drive best practice. Excellent time management skills, ability to meet deadlines & plan ahead. Ability to prioritise workload and work in a fast-paced environment. Exceptional communication skills, ability to negotiate, influence, and achieve stakeholder buy-in.
