Assistant Director, Strategic Communications Exciting opportunity to contribute to strategic communications in the government sector, working on high-impact projects within a highly regarded Federal Government Department.
This initial 12 month role will be offered as a non-ongoing or temporary S26 transfer. Whilst open to candidates in any state capital, we are seeking a candidate with prior experience in strategic communications within a federal government agency at an EL1 level and an existing baseline clearance.
Key Responsibilities: Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies for program announcements and high-profile policy developments. Undertake procurement and contract management for suppliers, including communications and media buying. Work closely with specialists in design, digital, audio-visual, and media to ensure seamless execution of communication strategies across multiple platforms. Collaborate with program and client areas to develop key messaging, content, and ensure effective communication across stakeholders. Create and edit web content, social media posts, internal communications, publications, and marketing materials for the department and ministers. Conduct evaluations of communication activities and assess their effectiveness in achieving key objectives. Supervise and mentor team members, building capability and fostering professional growth within the team. The Ideal Candidate: Demonstrated experience in a senior strategic communications role within government. Proven experience in procurement and managing creative and advertising suppliers. Strong strategic thinker with the ability to manage complex communications projects and align them with broader government priorities. Excellent project management skills, with the ability to handle competing priorities and deliver results on time and to a high standard. Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to build relationships and influence at all levels. Excellent judgment, with the ability to make sound decisions and escalate issues when necessary. Exceptional writing skills, with a focus on accessibility, readability, and attention to detail. A collaborative, empathetic team leader with a willingness to mentor and build team capability. How to Apply:
