What You'll Do We are seeking a skilled Horticulturist to support the maintenance, development, and conservation of our living plant collection at Melbourne Gardens.
You will apply horticultural techniques to create a thriving plant environment, manage pest control using Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles, and oversee irrigation systems.
Working closely with the Horticulture and wider Melbourne Gardens team, you will contribute to landscape development projects and horticultural plans, maintaining accurate records and ensuring high standards of presentation.
You will also have excellent attention to detail, and can record and monitor data and records, including maps and plant performance.
Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will enable you to work well within a team and deliver excellent customer service to site visitors.
What You'll Bring The ideal candidate will have a Trade Certificate, Advanced Certificate, or relevant qualifications in Horticulture, along with experience in large public gardens.
Completion of a Farm Chemical Users Course or an Agricultural Chemical Users Permit is also essential.
You should have a strong knowledge of current horticultural practices, plant identification, and the ability to optimise plant performance through effective weed, pest, and disease control using IPM strategies.
Experience with maintaining accurate records, operating horticultural machinery safely, and managing landscape irrigation systems is also required.
Additionally, you will have proven proficiency in software including the Microsoft Suite.
