ABOUT THE ROLE... The team at Monarto Safari Park are looking for an experienced, motivated and enthusiastic Browse Assistant to work Horticulture team in this newly created role collecting Browse on and offsite for the expanding animal collection. The position will be permanent part- time, 20 hours a week over 3 weekdays. The successful candidate will be guided by Zoos SA's values and work with the browse team to achieve the goals set out in the Strategic and Business Plans. In addition, they will, under general supervision and within specified guidelines, perform all horticulture duties in a safe, efficient and effective manner. As part of our Browse Collection team, you will: Identify and collect tree browse: Locate and collect tree browse from specific plant species based on the dietary needs of animals in wildlife conservation or zoo environments.Ensure sustainable harvesting practices: Follow guidelines to ensure that browsing is done sustainably, preventing harm to the trees and maintaining the health of the ecosystem.Monitor and document browse quality: Assess the quality and condition of the collected browse, ensuring it meets nutritional and safety standards for the animals.Maintain a record of browse collection: Keep detailed logs of the types of browse collected, the locations, and the quantities harvested to track resource usage and availability.Collaborate with horticultural and animal care teams: Work with horticulturists and animal keepers to ensure the right species are collected and to meet the dietary needs of various animals.Follow health and safety protocols: Ensure all collection activities are carried out following safety guidelines, including the use of proper equipment and adherence to protocols in potentially hazardous environments.ABOUT YOU... To be considered for this position you will need to meet the following selection criteria: Have or be working towards Certificate II in Horticulture or Conservation Ecosystem Management;Proven experience in plant species identification;Drivers licence, manual experience desirable;Have an awareness and ability to horticulture techniques and practices;Chainsaw licence;Working at heights qualification is desirable;Knowledge and understanding of Workplace Health & Safety principles and process; andHigh level of communication and interpersonal skills with peers, staff, volunteers and public. The successful candidate will be someone that has good people skills, pays close attention to detail and can manage their time effectively, working both independently or as part of a team.
