The Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation is a Registered Aboriginal Party (RAP) appointed under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (Vic.).
We represent the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Traditional Owners of Melbourne and the Greater Melbourne region, and we take great pride in our responsibility for protecting and managing Aboriginal cultural heritage objects and places on Wurundjeri Country.
Purpose The Cultural Heritage Compliance Unit is responsible for monitoring and ensuring compliance with the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (Vic.)
and Aboriginal Heritage Regulations 2018 (Vic.)
and other Commonwealth and state heritage legislation.
Heritage Advisors working within the Cultural Heritage Compliance Unit support the function of the RAP and the appointed Aboriginal Heritage Officer to help ensure the preservation and management of Aboriginal Places, both tangible and intangible through proactive and reactive measures under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (Vic.
)
Key Responsibilities Monitor compliance with approved Cultural Heritage Management plans, Cultural Heritage Permits, Achlmas, and other facets of the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006. Provide expert advice on compliance-related matters to approved plans and permits in line with the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006. Provide compliance advice and guidance to support the development of cultural heritage project initiatives for the Wurundjeri Corporation and for key government infrastructure projects. Represent and advocate the views of Elders and the organisation in relation to compliance with approved plans, permits and legislation. Provide a high standard of specialist advice and guidance on heritage governance and compliance. About You Regulatory, Criminology or Investigative experience (preferred). Thorough knowledge of the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (Vic.)
and the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth). Minimum three years working in the field of Aboriginal cultural heritage management in Victoria. Demonstrated ability to read, interpret and apply relevant legislation, policies, and procedures. Ability to support positive working relationships with Wurundjeri elders and members. Previous experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will be highly regarded, however is not essential.
